In an attempt (one of several) to involve children in the leading of our worship, I penned these two tunes for Palm Sunday and Easter. The texts are lifted almost directly from Matthew 21 and 28, respectively.
Musically, the Palm Sunday tune "Lay Them Down" borrows a little from Al Green's "Lay it Down". The descending melody, repeated phrases, etc. etc. There's a loose afiliation, promise.
The Easter tune, "Jesus is Alive" starts with the repeated chorus, "Roll, baby roll." This is an easy mnemonic for the kids to latch on to, and it is a very clear depiction of the angels "rolling" away the stone from Jesus' tomb. Some of the kids developed hand motions for this one, and I'm certainly looking forward to seeing them roll the stone away on Easter morning.
