Andrew Russell, a musician we had the privilege of having at New City Fellowship for a number of years, is getting ready to release an EP of his original music. We asked Andrew to share with us about his project.

Andrew Russell is a singer/songwriter from Nassau, Bahamas, a country that has produced great talents such as Sidney Poitier.  Andrew’s music has been described as “a breath of fresh air”.  With musical influences extending from John Legend, Stevie Wonder, Kirk Franklin, and Lauryn Hill, Andrew’s style is unashamedly soulful.  Like a Negro Spiritual, Andrew’s music speaks to something deeper within us.  It speaks to a longing desiring to be fulfilled, and a hope waiting to be discovered.

Andrew has been in a rock band called “Phoenix Soul”, an R&B hip-hop group called “308”, and has been a part of Choir in Chattanooga, TN, Memphis, TN, and Dallas, TX.  He currently is the traditional and contemporary Worship Leader at Grace Bible Church in Dallas, TX, and is also a recent graduate of Redeemer Seminary in Dallas, TX.

About the EP:

What is music?

It’s a language that we all know.

Beauty made audible.

The heart reaching to the mind.

Heaven’s gift to mankind.

This is what this EP is all about, making great music that inspires people to live for something greater than themselves.

This EP will feature 5 different styles of music (Caribbean Junkanoo, Pop, R&B, Soul, and Salsa) with one message: Hope.

I have the opportunity to work with the world-renowned Brian Piper, who will be the executive producer for this project. Brian Piper is a singer, pianist, composer, arranger, producer, conductor, orchestrator, and film scorer. He has worked with Willie Nelson, Lou Rawls, Ella Fitzgerald, Amy Grant, Toby Keith, Andrea Bocelli, and other great musicians. Brian is assembling some of the best session players and studio engineers in the music business. One of the studio engineers has worked with Lauryn Hill, Timbaland, Akon, Kelly Clarkson, Patti LaBelle, Erykah Badu, and Kirk Franklin. I am humbled and honored to work with such talented people.

The project will be completed in September of this year.  In the meantime, you can hear some of my music by visiting my facebook and twitter page.
